The RAD YAD Program started in January 2014 and is an exceptional opportunity for young adults with a disability to develop independence and engage in the community. Programs run Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, with more days being added in September 2017.
This new initiative will assist youth and young adults with cerebral palsy and other neuromotor disabilities, between the ages of 15 to 25, transition into adulthood. The program will allow for constructive input from the participants, focusing on transition and independence in the community. Based upon Families of Alberta for Conductive Education (FACE)’s core principles of Conductive Education, which is to maximize independence by encouraging physical activity and the development of problem-solving skills. In this new setting, Conductive Education will provide young adults opportunities to plan and enjoy activities within the community, like sporting events, concerts or simply going to a movie, which by its very nature allows more independence.
